DETAILED ITINERARY:

Days 1 and 2 – Northwest Province - Pilanesberg National Park   Start of tour - Johannesburg/Pretoria

An early departure from Johannesburg/Pretoria as we travel west to the Pilanesberg National Park, a relatively new national park, proclaimed in 1979. Covering an area of 55 000 hectares, Pilanesberg is home to the big five, 50 other species of large mammals, and 354 bird species. The entire park is situated in the remains of a 1200 million year old volcanic crater.

We travel via the "Springbok flats" and the interesting town of Warmbaths (Bela Bela) to a luxury lodge in a Private game reserve in the magnificent Waterberg region of the Limpopo Province. Later this afternoon you undertake an exiting open-vehicle game drive in search of the elusive inhabitants of the bush.

After breakfast we travel further north through the provincial capital Polokwane and on to the scenic Magoebaskloof. We visit a tea plantation high up in the mountains where a light lunch can be enjoyed while admiring the breathtaking views.   In the afternoon we descend the escarpment and travel through the warm “lowveld” before entering the world famous Kruger National Park

What is a restcamp?
The word "restcamp" is a bit deceiving as it has nothing to do with "camping".  The accommodation used in the Kruger National Park are brick or stone cottages or bungalows, usually with a thatched roof.  These bungalows or cottages all have private en-suite facilities (WC, shower and wash basin) and air-conditioning.

Day 5 - Limpopo Province - Central Kruger National Park

The day begins with an early morning “open vehicle” game drive, and the “hunt” for the elusive “Big Five”. During the rest of day your tour guide and vehicle is at all times available for game-viewing drives along the excellent network of well-maintained roads that exist inside the Kruger Park.

Days 6 and 7 – Mpumalanga Province - Southern Kruger National Park

We travel south inside the park, with two full days in the company of Africa’s magnificent wildlife. We prefer to stay at more than one restcamp, providing you with the opportunity to observe the ever-changing habitat while travelling inside the Park. A final highlight is a night safari in an open game-viewing vehicle in search of the nocturnal inhabitants of the African bush.

Days 8 and 9 – Kwazulu-Natal Province - Ithala Game Reserve

We exit the Kruger Park at the southern border and cross into Swaziland, one of the last, and also smallest remaining monarchies in the world. We drive right through this tiny country and exit at the south to travel to Ithala Game Reserve, flagship of the KwaZulu-Natal Parks.
Ithala is especially well known for it’s scenic beauty, but with 4 of the “Big Five” species, also offers excellent game viewing. We have two days to explore the hills and valleys of this beautiful reserve, while meals can be enjoyed at the excellent camp restaurant.

Days 10 and 11 – Kwazulu Natal Province -  Mkuze Game Reserve

We travel further into the heart of Zululand to the Mkuze Game Reserve. A special highlight at Mkuze is observing wildlife at close quarters from a number of hides strategically placed next to waterholes.
Mkuze is also world famous for it's astounding variety of bird species - more than 400 having been recorded. There is no restaurant in the camp, but a well stocked shop supplies the basic necessities, while freshly prepared light meals can be obtained from the Rhino-Dine-O take-away kiosk. Dinners will be in the form of a typical South African “braai” (barbecue) prepared over an open fire by your tour guide.

We have the rest of the afternoon plus a full day tomorrow to explore this magnificent “Big Five” reserve.
